Vision Plans vs Medical Insurance

Vision Plans primarily cover routine vision-related expenses such as eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. These plans maintain your general eye health and ensure your prescription is up-to-date. Vision plans are ideal for regular check-ups and corrective eyewear.

Medical Insurance comes into play for medical eye care, which involves diagnosing, treating, and managing eye diseases and injuries. Your medical insurance may cover the billing for your visit if your eye exam detects a medical condition like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration. This type of insurance covers treatments for acute eye diseases and emergency eye care as well.

If we categorize your visit as a "medical eye examination," we will bill your medical insurance instead of your vision savings plan, and your plan will require you to pay co-pays, deductibles, and/or co-insurances. You will then have the option to pay out of pocket for your refraction (glasses prescription) or schedule a return appointment using your applicable vision savings plan.
